Nikon, the Grandfather of Modern Photography

Nikon has been a cornerstone brand of the photography industry for decades. Isn’t it time you picked one up?

Nikon has been around for YEARS. It was actually originally founded in 1917 under the name Japan Optical Industries Co., Ltd, but they changed their name to Nikon in 1988 after the huge successes that they had with their cameras. And talk about success! For nearly 30 years, Nikon’s F-series SLRs were the most widely used small-format cameras among professional photographers as well as by the U.S. space program. Nikon popularized many features in professional SLR photography, such as the modular camera system with interchangeable lenses, viewfinders, motor drives, and data backs; integrated light metering and lens indexing; electronic strobe flashguns instead of expendable flashbulbs; electronic shutter control; evaluative multi-zone “matrix” metering; and built-in motorized film advance. Basically, when you think of any film-based SLR camera, Nikon was there first, offering the features that we all care about.

Let’s talk about the different Nikons that are available. My personal dream camera is the Nikon D3300 DSLR camera. Being kind of a girly-girl, I absolutely adore the fact that this camera comes in a beautiful red color. But besides the colors, it comes with an awesome AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II lens. This lens is capable of capturing things with ease, right down to the tiniest detail, it captures high-resolution images up to 6000 x 4000 pixels. That’s way more pixels than you will ever need, no matter how many birthdays, graduations, or vacations you might be attending and be “VolunTold” to take pictures of with your awesome Nikon camera. This particular camera also has a 3″ LCD screen, records in HD video, and has Optical Image Stabilization to reduce the effects of camera shake and vibration to minimize blurring in your shots.

After you have gotten your Nikon camera, be it the D3300, the D3200, or whichever model you are interested in, the next step you might want to take is to get some different lenses for your new camera. The lens that your Nikon comes with will be a great all-purpose lens, but if you need something more specialized, here are a few choices available from DealDash:

Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 Lens

Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Zoom Lens

Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR Telephoto Zoom Lens

Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8G ED Standard Zoom Lens

If you’re interested in learning a little history about the Oster company, you might be interested to know that Oster started out as The John Oster Manufacturing Company, they were a  maker of small appliances. The Oster brand is continued today as a trademark of Sunbeam Products.

The company was started in 1924 by John Oster, manufacturing manually powered hair clippers designed to cut men’s hair. John Oster Manufacturing Company was established in the garage of John Oster in Racine, WI.

In 1946, in order to diversify, the John Oster Manufacturing Company bought the Stevens Electric Company, which had received a patent on the liquefying blender in 1922. After the acquisition, the brand “Osterizer” was adopted for these blenders. In 1960, Oster Manufacturing was acquired by Sunbeam.

Beats By Dr. Dre – A flawless and iconic fit for YOU

Do you love music? Me too! Who doesn’t? My music sounds best on Beats By Dr. Dre, and I bet yours will, too.

There are a few different styles of Beats By Dr. Dre, let’s start with my personal favorite:

Beats By Dr. Dre Powerbeats Sport Headphones – It’s a mouthful to say, but they are really quite small and fit perfectly in your ears for when you are working out or just trying to drown out the noises at work or at home. My favorite part about the Powerbeats Sport Headphones is they have a small adjustable ear clips that are engineered to stay put during all levels of movement. And I can attest to this fact- normal ear buds just don’t fit my ears correctly and always end up falling out if I move around too much, but my Powerbeats Sport Headphones have never fallen out due to the ear clips.

Beats By Dr. Dre urBeats headphones – Speaking of ear buds, here are Dr. Dre’s version. These ear buds come multiple sized ear tips, and help block distractive noise and have a lightweight design that makes them ideal for listening during exercise, travel, or just about any activity. Not only can you listen to music with these ear buds, they also have a built in microphone that enables hands-free phone calls and lets you easily switch between songs and incoming calls. These headphones also work with online voice and video chats when used with your Apple® iPod® touch or iPhone. Unfortunately my ears are not compatible with these and I had to give mine away! They had great sound though, and my niece loves them.

Beats by Dr. Dre Beats Mixr on-ear headphones – These headphones are extremely comfortable, they have soft leatherette ear pads that provides comfort during extended listening sessions. The ear cups pivot up to 270° to enable single-ear monitoring and offer a secure fit. And just as the urBeats headphones above, these headphones also work with online voice and video chats when used with your Apple® iPod® touch or iPhone.

Beats By Dr. Dre New Beats Studio Over Ear Headphones – They say that these headphones are powerful enough to block out a jet engine! Yet they are powered by just a pair of AAA batteries. The noise cancellation feature in a pair of Beats Studio headphones amplifies the music as it blocks out noise, giving you consistently powerful and intense sound.  You can take calls, skip songs and adjust volume right from the cord of your Beats Studio headphone – and the Beats logo on the side doubles as a Mute Button, clever!

Beats by Dr. Dre Pill 2.0 Portable Stereo Speaker – Beats Pill is awesome! This is actually the only member of the “Beats Family” that we have been talking about that I don’t own (yet!). The Beats Pill offers a bluetooth connection for any devices that are compatible, and for those that don’t have bluetooth you can make a connection for your MP3 player with the use of a 3.5mm stereo audio cable. In addition to listening to music there’s also an internal microphone so you can actually take calls with this speaker! You can get up to and including 7 hours of use on a single charge, and you can even charge up most phones using the Beats Pill. The great thing about this speaker is that it’s portable without compromising on sound.

In case you aren’t as familiar with these products as I am, here are some quick facts:

  • Beats by Dr. Dre (Beats), is a leading audio brand founded in 2006 by Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine.
  • Beats’ original product line were Beats by Dr. Dre headphones
  • Beats has a subscription-based online music service known as Beats Music, which launched in January 2014
  • Beats was acquired by Apple Inc. in July 2014.

All of these great Beats By Dr. Dre products are available on DealDash occasionally – If you are interested in winning one of these products I would suggest that you head on over to DealDash, pick which one you are interested in, and hit the blue “Alert Me” button that’s on the auction page. That way, when one of these Beats comes up for auction DealDash will send you an email and you can be prepared! Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

Who Wants to go to Hamilton Beach?

Go check out your small appliances in your kitchen. No really, get up and go look. I bet you have at least one Hamilton Beach small appliance, maybe even more.

Okay, now that we have had a little field trip to the kitchen, did you grab yourself a snack while you were there? Maybe some popcorn from your Hamilton Beach Hot Oil Popcorn Popper, a smoothie with the Hamilton Beach Personal Blender, or did you go all out and make yourself a delicious Belgian waffle with your The Hamilton Beach Flip Belgian Waffle Maker? If you made yourself a waffle, I hope you also made a yummy cup of coffee with your Hamilton Beach 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, too. Whatever snack you might have been craving Hamilton Beach has the tool to help you make it.

The Hamilton Beach name actually has a really interesting story behind it — You might think that Hamilton Beach is named after either the founder of the company, or maybe their favorite vacation spot, right? Well, you would be wrong on both counts! Hamilton Beach was actually founded by inventor Frederick J. Osius in Racine, Wisconsin in April 1910. The Hamilton Beach Manufacturing Company took its name from two men Osius hired, Louis Hamilton and Chester Beach. Osius did not care for his own name, so he paid Hamilton and Beach $1000 each for the right to use their names instead. Isn’t that an interesting little tidbit of information on one of our favorite small appliance companies?

Up until now we have only talked about the kitchen gadgets that Hamilton Beach makes, but they actually make a variety of other products for the home that you might be familiar with as well – a full-size garment steamer, a True Air Odor Eliminator,  irons, and many more.

Personally, my favorite Hamilton Beach product is the Hamilton Beach Programmable 5-Quart Slow Cooker. Now that we are in spring headed towards summer I won’t use it as much, but in the fall and winter months my family lives off of soups and stews that I make with the Programmable 5-Quart Slow Cooker. It’s such an easy task to chop up some meat and veggies and throw them into the slow cooker in the morning and have a delicious soup or stew ready at dinnertime.

I don’t usually make huge meals, but this slow cooker is the ideal size for a 5-lb chicken or 3-lb roast. You can choose from anywhere between 2 to 10 hours of cooking time. Once your desired cook time is complete, the slow cooker will automatically switch itself to the warming setting., which is really handy if you end up working late that night! The Hamilton Beach Programmable 5-Quart Slow Cooker stoneware vessel and lid are dishwasher safe, which makes clean-up extra easy.

I hope you and your family enjoy Hamilton Beach products as much as my family does. Head on over to DealDash and check out what Hamilton Beach products are coming up soon. And remember, if you don’t end up winning the product you want you can always BIN (Buy it Now) and get all of your bids back. Good luck everyone!

Based in San Mateo, California, GoPro, Inc. is an American-based corporation that is in the high-definition personal camera business. The company was founded by Nick Woodman in 2002. Woodman started the company following a 2002 surf trip to Australia in which he was hoping to capture quality action photos of his surfing, but could not because amateur photographers could not get close enough, or obtain quality equipment at reasonable prices. His desire for a camera system that could capture the professional angles inspired the ‘GoPro’ name. Woodman initially raised a portion of the money for his company by selling bead and shell belts for $20 out of his VW van, and later, fashionable camera straps. He also received over $230,000 in investment from his parents. Though GoPro had modest beginnings, you might be interested to know that they now have over 860 employees!
