Oh, Labour Day Weekend! The grand finale of summer where folks across the pond gloriously forget the proper spelling of “labor.” So let’s travel back in time to the late 19th century. Imagine a group of hardworking workers (who wore mustaches and ridiculously high-waisted pants) demanding better working conditions. They were like, “Hey, we deserve an extra day to go fishing or, I dunno, take up synchronized napping!” Hence, this spectacular holiday was born out of the hustle to not hustle. 🎉
Time to Chill and Grill
Bring on the BBQ cookouts and squeezing the very last drop out of summer! Speaking of drops, why not opt for a super refreshing mocktail this labour day to get those taste buds tingling? A watermelon mint cooler is like a summer kiss in a glass (without the awkward first-date vibes). Blend diced watermelon, fresh mint leaves, a squeeze of lime juice, and a splash of sparkling water. Serve over ice.
For the BBQ main event, you can’t go wrong with some lip-smacking BBQ ribs. Simply mix ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika. Add a pinch of salt for an easy and delicious BBQ rib sauce. Keep it classic yet fabulous with a side of creamy coleslaw. It’s crunchy, it’s tangy, and it complements those ribs like a perfect dance partner.
Last but certainly not least, you can’t throw a summer bash without s’mores! Gooey marshmallow, melty chocolate, stuffed between graham crackers, creating a bite-sized explosion of nostalgia and happiness. There you have it, folks: a Labour Day menu guaranteed to get everybody home safe and in bed by 8 p.m. 😜

America is a tune. It must be sung together. -Gerald Stanley Lee
All of us here at DealDash just want to wish you a Happy 4th of July! Today marks a whopping 248 years since the United States Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776. And while none of us can claim to have been there for the first few iterations of the 4th of July, now there are more Americans than ever who are excited to celebrate this historic day.
Do you have any special 4th of July plans? Keep reading to learn a bit about Independence Day, find out the most popular ways Americans are celebrating this year, and see what DealDash has in store for this special day.
The 4th of July: How it started
The 4th of July as USA’s Independence Day dates back to the 18th century. On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress officially adopted the Declaration of Independence. This marked the thirteen American colonies’ break from Great Britian. The Declaration of Independence was written primarily by Thomas Jefferson. It outlined the problems that the 13 colonies had against King George III and British rule. Some of the main grievances outlined were unfair laws made that the colonies had no control over, taxes imposed by the king, and opposition against British troops that were stationed in the colonies.
After the Declaration of Independence was signed, the Revolutionary War intensified. The war eventually ended in 1793 with the Treaty of Paris was signed. The treaty recognized the United States as an independent nation, a fact we still celebrate hundreds of years later.
How will you celebrate?
So how do Americans choose to celebrate the 4th of July? Does one simply grab a cold beverage, light off some fireworks, and yell out, “Happy 4th of July!” to any and all passerbys? Well, yes and no. While food, fireworks, and a sense of patriotic unity rule the day, there are other ways to celebrate, too.
One very popular way to celebrate this year is by lounging at the pool, going for a swim or going boating to try and beat the heat. According to NPR, about 150 million people in the U.S. are affected this 4th of July weekend by extreme heat. There are excessive heat warnings in Mississippi, Arkansas, Arizona, Washington and other states. This extreme heat might disrupt some fireworks shows as some states are experiencing elevated fire warnings. But on the other hand, the heat makes a nice cool dip in the pool all the more appetizing.
You can also celebrate the 4th by watching a local parade, or attending a community celebration, like a historical reenactment or a picnic.
Be sure to celebrate the 4th with DealDash, too!
One thing is for certain this year: you should be celebrating the 4th of July with us on DealDash!

It hasn’t even been a month since we watched the ball drop on New Year’s Eve, and 2024 has already been a wild year for weather. Across the USA and Canada, new temperature records are being set daily as abnormally cold winter weather has arrived.
Extreme winter weather affects each of us differently. Kids, for example, typically love winter weather, especially if it results in school cancellations and a few snow days. In many parts of the USA, the current chilly weather and heavy snows have significantly disrupted daily life, resulting in numerous school closures and travel delays. This may sound like fun, but in some places it is too cold to even be outside!
Adults usually have more mixed feelings about disruptive winter weather than children do. Sometimes, we want nothing more than to go through a normal day’s routine. When unexpected and uncontrollable events like winter weather get in the way of our routines, it can be stressful. On a typical day, a person might go to work, swing by the gym, and then go pick up some takeaway food from their favorite restaurant. But for many, that is not possible now. Instead, they are stuck at home trying to keep boredom at bay.
Are you battling tough winter weather right now? Do you find yourself digging through your closet for a proper winter jacket? Perhaps you are stuck inside with a houseful of other bored and grumpy family members? If so, don’t fret. DealDash can help! Blizzard Bargains is a new promotion starting soon on January 29th. With increased rewards, special auction twists, and last-chance auctions for low stock items like winter jackets, this sale is just the thing to help you pass those cold winter days.
You’ll want to be around for this blizzard
DealDash’s Blizzard Bargains promotion begins this Monday, January 29th, and lasts until the following Monday, February 5th. This week-long promotion offers everything you need to stay occupied and away from harsh winter weather.
Bids are on sale
For starters, bidpacks are on sale during Blizzard bargains. Be sure to check in each day during the promotion. On several days, we’ll offer bids for as low as 12 cents each!
Earn free bids quicker than ever
We aren’t just selling bids during Blizzard Bargains, we are giving them away, too. On select days of this promotion there’s an increased Time As Highest Bidder (TAHB) multiplier available for every DealDash bidder. To recap, TAHB is another way that DealDash gives you free bids for simply bidding. When you are the highest bidder in an auction, your TAHB meter fills up. When it is full, you can claim your reward of free bids. The higher the bidding level you complete, the bigger the reward of free bids! And keep your eye out for Milestone Levels where the rewards are huge!
Bid in special types of DealDash auctions
During Blizzard Bargains, we’re offering all sorts of exciting auctions. Be sure to look for different badges on the auction page to show you what type of auction you are bidding.
You can also practice some bidding strategy by participating in SpyBuddy Auctions. These auctions let you reveal what your competition was up to. Every 60 minutes you can reveal all booked bids for one minute. Any bid count of over 500 is displayed as 500+. The list of booked bids does not update after the reveal. Instead, you must wait at least 60 minutes to reveal again.
And last but not least, the No Jumper Limit will be lowered in select auctions. A lower No Jumper Limit can mean less competition, as the auction is restricted to new bidders sooner than it normally is.
Bid on items to help you through bad winter weather
All throughout the week during Blizzard Bargains, we will be running auctions for low-stock items. This means that it’s your last chance for some of these items as we are clearing out the remaining stock. And to help you through winter, some of these low-stock items are winter puffer jackets and fleece jackets. Keep checking back each day to see what new auctions are beginning.
No matter what type of weather you are experiencing at the moment, we hope that you are your loved ones have had a good start to 2024. Spring is not too far away, and until the birds start chirping and the temperatures begin rising, spend the remaining days of winter with DealDash. Happy bidding!
If you are new to DealDash or the bidding fee online auction model and want to give it a try, use the promo code “FREEBIDS” upon registration to get an extra 100 free bids with your first Bid Pack purchase.
We’re entering a special time of the year: the days are getting shorter, football is on T.V. around the clock, and folks are putting up Chistmas lights. What does all of this mean? It means that Thanksgiving and Black Friday are right around the corner!
Are you ready for Thanksgiving yet? Do you have any Black Friday or Cyber Monday shopping plans? Yes? No? Either way, keep reading to find out more about current Thanksgiving trends and also how DealDash and the DealDash App can be the most important part of Black Friday and Holiday Shopping for you.
Giving thanks and tons of turkey
Every year Americans come together on the fourth Thursday of November to celebrate Thanksgiving. This year it falls on November 23rd. And while Thanksgiving, or Turkey Day as it’s informally known as, is celebrated primarily by Americans, it is also celebrated in Canada, and parts of Europe and Australia, too. Generally, people celebrate Thanksgiving by gathering with their family, remembering their blessings and practicing gratitude, and eating a large meal together.
Thanksgiving traditions can vary from family to family, but there are some cornerstones that generally remain the same. If the nickname ”Turkey Day” doesn’t give it away, Thanksgiving is a holiday based around food, and the most important part of Thanksgiving dinner is Turkey! According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Americans eat over 45 million Turkeys on Thanksgiving! With so much turkey being consumed, it’s no surpise that people are constantly thinking up new ways to cook it.
One of the most traditional ways of preparing a thanksgiving turkey is to roast it with potatoes and stuffing. And while it’s hard to go wrong with this classic way of preparing your Thanksgiving bird, there have been some new Thanksgiving cooking trends emerging.
About 50 years ago, the invention of propane burners created the possibility of deep-frying entire turkeys. A deep-fried turkey is a delicious Thanksgiving treat, but it can be very risky. The hot oil will react with any moisture in the turkey, so it is important to make sure that the bird is first fully thawed before attemting to deep-fry it. This may seem like an un-needed safety warning, but Newsweek reports that millions of dollars of property damage, serious injury and even deaths occur each Thanksgiving as a result of exploding deep-fried turkeys. So remember, safety first!
One new trend involves ditching turkey for vegetarian or vegan-friendly options. Millions of Americans eat meat-free diets, but they still want to celebrate Thanksgiving with a special meal. So, they replace the classic Thanksgiving turkey with tofu, soy, or hearty vegetables, like squash, yams, or pumpkin. Replacing meat with vegetarian alternatives goes in the face of tradition, and originally, meatless Thanksgiving alternatives like Tofurkey (a tofu dish that is supposed to be the centerpiece of a Thanksgiving meal) was widely ridiculed. But nowadays, there are options galore.
For example, Bon Appetite online published a list of over 50 vegan Thanksgiving dishes that they guarantee to be popular. From salads to special chutneys to cassaroles, these dishes are worth a try for vegans, vegetarians, and meat eaters alike!
A time for sports and shopping, too!
It’s clear that family and food are at the center of Thanksgiving. But there are some other important pillars of Thanksgiving Week, too! The first is football. Chances are, you have watched quite a few games already this year! Football season begins around the end of August, and peaks in late November and early December, with major championships, like the major NCAA bowl games and the super bowl being played in the early part of the new year. Many high schools and universities have their season-ending games or homecoming games around Thanksgiving. This makes it a common activity for many Americans to go and watch a game in person over Thanksgiving weekend.
America’s professional football league, the NFL, has historically played games on Thanksgiving. Eating too much, and settling into a comfortable couch or easy chair to watch the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions playhas become an important part of Thanksgiving for football fans everywhere.
Have you been watching much football on T.V. this season? If so, then you’ve probably seen a DealDash commercial or two. And while it is true that DealDash offers exciting auctions and a great shopping experience every day of the year, this week is an especially great time to check out DealDash.com or open the DealDash App because Black Friday Week is in full swing!

All across America trees are shedding their leaves, temperatures are falling, and football is on T.V. almost every day of the week. What does all this mean? That it’s almost time to for Halloween! Are you ready? If you aren’t prepared, or if you are lacking some Halloween spirit, then you’re in the right place. Keep reading to learn about the history of Halloween and to find out what candy and which costumes are the most popular. And what DealDash blog would be complete without a sneak peek at some exciting upcoming promotions? So without further adieu, let’s get into the Halloween sprit!
From humble beginnings to big business
Halloween has been a prominent holiday for quite a while, but do you know about the origins of this spooky celebration? Halloween began centuries ago as Samhain, a Celtic tradition where bonfires and costumes helped ward off pesky ghosts. Things shifted when Pope Gregory III in the 8th-century spotlighted November 1 as All Saints’ Day. This later became All Hallows’ Eve, now known as Halloween. This exciting holiday found a new home in the US thanks to Irish immigrants who brought their customs with them when they came to the United States.
In the 1930’s, young children began a new Halloween tradition; trick-or-treating. This tradition stems from the ancient practice of “souling,” where poor individuals would go door-to-door offering prayers for the dead in exchange for food. The “trick” part implies a playful threat of mischief if no treats are given. Today, trick-or-treating is an essential part of Halloween. The normal age for trick-or-treaters is between 5 and 14 years old, and it has been estimated that close to 50 million American children go trick-or-treating each year.
What to wear and what to eat?
Trick-or-treating is much more than just walking around and talking to your neighbors. Kids need to dress up and homeowners need to be ready to give out some candy…unless they want to risk getting tricked! Do you feel clueless about costume ideas? Are you out of touch with recent developments in the candy industry? Well, fear not. We have you covered.
Let’s start with what to wear. According to a recent survey, the most popular choice for American children is to dress up as either a superhero, or a princess. Either of these ideas can be interpreted in a variety of different ways, and can be done either extravagently or on a budget. This year, with the popularity of the movie Barbie, you can expect children of all ages to be dressed up as the iconic doll.
In terms of candy, projected Halloween spending is on the rise and appears to hit record levels this year. People are buying more candy now than ever! Did you have a favorite kind of Halloween candy? Interestingly, your answer might depend on when and where you grew up. A recent survey showed that each state had different sales results for Halloween candy. Each state recorded different sales results for different types of candy, however clear national favorites were identified. The most popular kinds of halloween candy across the nation were M&Ms, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and Hot Tamales.
Not all types of Halloween candy are popular. And while some folks may enjoy the sweets listed below, Necco Wafers, Candy Corn and Circus Peanuts topped the list for ‘worst Halloween candies’.
Not all treats have to be candy…
It’s true that kids covet some candy more than others, but there is one fear that can stop any trick-or-treater still in their tracks: the idea of going to a house and receiving something other than candy alltogether!
The classic example of this is if someone has a dentist as a neighbor. The go to their house, press the doorbell, and are greated with a smiling face. But instead of receiving some chocolate, or caramel, or even candy corn, they are handed a green apple. And while the dentist might have their heart in the right place, there are not many kids who would be thrilled at the prospect of receiving a piece of fruit. But believe it or not, more and more people are handing out non-candy items each Halloween. So if you are health-conscious, or simply would like to offer a unique treat this Halloween, here is a list of 32 options, including stickers, small toys, or magnets.
